Before you go…
My clients know that I am often referencing various resources in our conversations. This usually happens in a hurried fashion as they are walking out the door or logging off, “before you go- here is the name of that book!” Just as often, I am receiving resources from them in the same matter. We commonly find ourselves wishing it was possible to go for a stroll or out to coffee just to chat about what we are feeling inspired by at that given moment- an article that’s resonant or a podcast episode that perfectly articulates a theme we have been rooting around in.
This is a little attempt to record some of that sustenance, take it with you on your way to wherever you’re going next. Not all of what I share here will be overtly therapy related (in fact I hope most of it won’t be). I have never been of the mind that the most valuable content to share lies directly in the field itself. Sure, there is research, analysis and modalities that I can get very excited about but it’s a little inside baseball. What I tend to share with clients is what directly moves me without any complex academic reaching and that is more likely to be a film, a poem, an essay, even a brilliantly crafted segment of stand-up. Psychology is often trying to understand, quantify or prove what art already knows so well- that how we connect to others and to ourselves is how we heal.
